About Us

The City of Portsmouth Girls' School is is a comprehensive (non-selective) school for 1000 girls aged between 11 and 16. It is located close to the city centre on Portsea Island, which lies to the North of the Isle of Wight on the South coast of England.

Our catchment area covers all areas of Portsmouth though most pupils live within two or three miles of the school. (see Admissions Policy)

There are over 100 staff including teachers, assistants, technicians, administration personnel etc. The school is committed to developing and motivating all its staff to achieve the highest possible standards for the pupils.

Pupils are taught in year groups majoritively by age, although on occasions we accelerate girls because of ability, and follow the programmes of study laid down in the National Curriculum for Years 7-11 (Key Stages 3 & 4).

Open Evenings are held in the Summer and Autumn Terms for prospective parents. At other times in the year parents should contact the Miss R Smith, to arrange a tour.

We also run an extensive programme of evening classes for adults here on site including examination, hobby and leisure courses.

Our facilities are also available for hire in the evening, at weekends and during school holidays.
